Sidearms

A group of people who are mutual friends with me met at an indoor range to fire weapons. I had the opportunity to fire a variety of manufactures, vintages and calibres; a very valuable experience. The first weapon I fired was a Glock, the G20 10mm. I learned later that the beauty of this firearm is the velocity, penetraion and stopping power of the 10mm round combined with a relatively light recoil. In fact I followed up the Glock with a Makarov PM 9mm and could barely discern the difference in kick. I feel the Makarov is the AK47 of pistols. The weapon I really liked most was a modern carry rendition of the 80 year old classic M1911, the Para Ordinance PXR LDA Single Stack 1911 .45. Of course the trip would not have been complete without trying out the infamous Desert Eagle. This full blown hand gun, the Mark VII Desert Eagle .50 A.E., was loaded with maximum specification 50 calibre ammo. This ammo was hand pressed to be the heaviest round possible in the ‘deagle’ to produce the strongest recoil! The animated gif below captures the fireball that results from firing this beast. Other weapons I plan to try in the future are the Heckler Koch HK P30 9mm, Sig Sauer P220R DAK .45 and the Taurus .45 ACP Revolver.
