Maas Attacks!

Mars Attacks! was in many ways a tribute to classic science fiction films of the 1950′s. However, it’s the classic sci-fi sounds (which greatly influnced the M.A. score) that drove me to spend many hours on a hunt to find the song I was after. It turns out The Man responsible for influencing this and so many other soundtracks is Bernard Herrmann, specifically from The Day the Earth Stood Still 1951 (though I am a bigger fan of War of the Worlds)

Eerie is the best word to describe the basis of the track I was trying to find. Sadly after many searches for songs from the Mars Attacks! sountrack I realized the techno remix of that song was not there. Today I got another wild hair to find the mesmirizing combination of the 1950 alien score with a modern electronic beat.

“Help Me” : In my searches on the Gnutella networks I found “Deep Dish Attacks Mars”. I knew Deep Dish was electronic so I downloaded the track and got my breakthrough! Deep Dish has been remixing songs since 1993 and have worked with artists from Eminem to Dido. The search was not over though, at first I figured Deep Dish created the phat beat behind “Help Me” but it turns out it was a creation of Timo Maas. Below is the music video for the single “Help Me” but I am still looking for the instrumental version.

Kelis BossyKelis : After downloading the originial track I was taken by this siren who flowed so well with this eerie beat on “Help Me”. It surely wasn’t The Kelis who brought all the boys to the yard. It was! Things just keep getting better, I have a new found respect for Kelis who I thought was just trying to be another hip-hop diva. I should have guessed that when she worked with ODB, she was a force to be reckoned with.
